Author's comments The subject of Indian Residential Schools is one that has gained a degree of notoriety and has generated more heat than light. Through media coverage, the general public believe they have an accurate picture of the nature and history of these institutions; a generally bleak and disturbing picture of abuse, racism and oppression. It is unfortunate that so much has been written about the residential schools before very much scholarly research has been done on the topic. Memoirs are no substitute for history. This book attempts to present the history of one of the residential schools. It is based on archival research and interviews with surviving staff and students.
