Position: Cultural Planning Intern (2-Year Internship)

About the Role: We are seeking a motivated and community-minded Cultural Planning Intern to join our team for a two-year placement. We offer a professional and supportive work environment, along with a competitive starting salary for early-career applicants.
Working closely with the Executive Director, you will help plan and deliver cultural programs, support community events, and contribute to the day-to-day operations of the Centre. This is a hands-on role that offers meaningful experience in Indigenous cultural programming, communications, and community engagement.
Who Can Apply: This opportunity is open to individuals who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nation, Métis, or Inuit), as required by the Northern Ontario Heritage Corporation who is funding this program.
What You’ll Do
• Manage and create content for social media platforms
• Support program planning, coordination, and delivery
• Assist with events (setup, hosting, and cleanup)
• Conduct research and build contacts for programming
• Prepare promotional materials (pamphlets, signage, newsletters)
• Provide administrative support (emails, scheduling, meeting notes)
• Welcome visitors and assist with reception duties
• Collaborate with team members across departments
What We’re Looking For
You are:
• Interested in Indigenous culture, traditions, and community work
• Organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks
• Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
• A strong communicator with attention to detail
• Open to flexible hours, including occasional evenings/weekends
Qualifications
• College or university graduate (Indigenous Studies preferred), or
a mature applicant with GED or equivalent experience
• Experience working with the public
• Strong social media and communication skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Canva
• Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license
• Willing to provide a CPIC with Vulnerable Sector Check
Assets:
• Fluency in Anishinabemowin
• Knowledge of Indigenous cultural practices and traditions
• Familiarity with Catholic traditions
Program Eligibility Requirements (NOHFC)
To be eligible, applicants must:
• Identify as Indigenous (First Nation, Métis, or Inuit)
• Be 18 years of age or older
• Be legally eligible to work in Canada
• Be entering the workforce, transitioning careers, or underemployed
• Not have previously participated in a 2020 Mandate NOHFC internship
• Reside in Northern Ontario during the placement
